During WW2 Pennsylvania like many other states saw many men and women go off to serve their country. In PA alone, more than 900,000 men and 22,000 women were sent overseas to fight. With many working men now gone it was up to the people at home to keep things running and many rose to the occasion

people at home were hard at work in factories to help supply the troops over seas and in PA they made more than 52 million shells, 1.7 million bombs, 2.3 million pounds of chemicals for explosives and 245,000 small parachutes for flares and bombs

This picture is propaganda used by the US government to inspire people at home to keep making ammunition so that our soldiers had enough to fight

In terms of steal production PA was the leading producer across the entire country

Also just like the rest of the country, PA faced food shortages resulting from food being sent across the ocean to the troops. As a solution many citizens began to grow gardens to help feed them fresh vegetables, they were called victory gardens.

This picture depicts African American women with jars of preserved food grown from their victory gardens.

This picture depicts bandages that were made in Carlisle PA, these bandages were in water proof tins and sent with soldiers on the D-day invasion for quick patch jobs on the shores.
