With Stanly enlisting in 1942 and his final breaths being on June 13th 1944 due to injuries from the D-day invasion he was 21 at the time of his death. When he died Stanly was Private First Class with the 9th Infantry Division. Private First Classes are considered the basic workforce strength and rank of the U.S. Army. At the beginning of the war the 9th Infantry division was sent to secure North Africa for the safety of trade routes. In November of 1943 the division moved back to Britain to carry out training for the D-day invasions. on June 10th 1944 the 9th landed on Utah beach, where Stanly was fatally injured. 

This crest is from the 39th infantry Regiment which is the part of the 9th division that Stanly served on.
